Our Programs
Elementary SchoolsFrom Kindergarten through Grade 8 children experience a balanced program that includes language arts, mathematics, health, physical education, religion, science, social studies, arts education, computer education, career education and practical and applied arts. Band instruction is available at most schools. At Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools, we recognize that the ability to read and write well gives every child a solid foundation for their future. That's why teaching children to be strong, confident readers has always been an important goal in our school division. Because not every child learns in the same way or at the same rate, our teachers have strategies to meet the individual needs of each student. Our mathematics program uses hands-on tasks and problem solving to help students gain a better understanding of math concepts and skills. With this approach, children develop their critical and creative thinking, and feel more assured of their ability in mathematics.
FULL-DAY KINDERGARTEN Several schools in our division offer full-day, every day kindergarten. In both full-day and half-day programs, students begin learning the academic and social skills needed for the years ahead. Schools currently offering full day, every day kindergarten are:

Languages
FrenchWe offer a wide range of French language programming in our schools. We know that students educated in our country's other official language reap many rewards. They show increased mental flexibility and creative thinking. Plus, they benefit from a wider range of career opportunities. Enrolments in French Immersion schools within our school division continue to experience growth. The increase in kindergarten enrolment and the number of grade 8 students continuing with French Immersion programs in high school are very encouraging. Type B French Immersion is available at these schools:
Type B schools offer religion in English beginning in grade 1 and English language arts in grade 2. Science and health may be taught in English in grades 7 and 8. The Saskatoon French School offers a Type A language program with students in kindergarten and grade 1 receiving 100 per cent instruction in French and students in grades 2 to 8 receiving 80 per cent instruction in French. Kindergarten is offered full days, approximately every other day, in the six French Immersion elementary schools. In high school, French immersion is offered at Bethlehem, Bishop James Mahoney, Holy Cross and St. Joseph high schools, enabling students to graduate with a French bilingual certificate. Mother Teresa, St. Augustine and St. George schools offer Intensive French in Grade 6. Students from anywhere in the city may attend. In this unique program, students study French for approximately 65 per cent of the day during the first five months of the school year. Core French, which focuses on learning to use the language in real-life situations, is offered at St. Anne, St. Bernard, St. Dominic, St. Edward, St. Luke and St. Philip elementary schools in Saskatoon, beginning in kindergarten or grade l. In Humboldt, St. Dominic and St. Augustine schools offer core French. And in Biggar, the program is offered at St. Gabriel School.
UkrainianBishop Filevich Ukrainian Bilingual Elementary School in Sutherland is the first school of its kind in Saskatchewan. Students may enter the program in kindergarten, grade 1 or grade 2. No previous knowledge of Ukrainian by student or parent is required. Transporation is provided citywide. Students may continue to study Ukrainian in high school at Bethlehem Catholic High School. Goals are for students to become functionally bilingual and develop an understanding and appreciation of the Byzantine Church tradition and of Ukrainian-Canadian culture.
CreeGreater Saskatoon Catholic Schools is proud to work with the Saskatoon Tribal Council (STC) to offer the nêhiyawak Cree Immersion program at St. Frances School. This is a unique program where students explore and experience their culture as they learn the Cree language. Learning traditional wisdom from the kêhtêyak (old ones/elders) is at the heart of what's taught.
